Darkness into light

Tuval Haim, 32, drummer and musician.
My younger brother Yotam was kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. After 70 days, he was accidentally killed by our own forces after he managed to escape captivity.
During the uncertain period after his abduction, music was our strength – it connected us, gave us hope, and helped us hold on.
After December 15, 2023, the date Yotam was killed, I couldn’t bear to hear a single note of music. I had already decided to give up my career and never perform again.
In the months that followed, I had many dreams about Yotam, and in many of them, we were playing music together. I felt that Yotam was asking me to return to playing.
I realized that the only way I could return to music was through Yotam’s story – his heroism, his ability to overcome life’s difficulties, and the hope to inspire all of Israel.

Music was also Yotam’s strength during his captivity, giving him the power not to give up.
Yotam “didn’t fall – he rose” because, in this impossible situation, he managed to make a courageous and heroic decision despite the immense risks. This message gives me the strength to continue, and I dedicate all my musical endeavors to his memory.
This project fills me with purpose and helps everyone involved get through these difficult days. It connects people from all walks of life through creation and spreads light to all who need it.

To continue this project, I’m reaching out to you for your support.
With your help, I can continue this healing musical journey while also supporting the wonderful musicians who are part of the project, as well as directors, actors, photographers, artists, and creators. Together, we can unite people through music.

The first song from the project, “Wings of Spirit,” was released on September 2, 2024. It’s a new rendition of Rabbi Kook’s words, performed with Pulkes and Berry Sakharof. The lyrics convey the message that everyone can find their wings in the toughest moments – demand them, and they will appear. The video shows the things Yotam loved doing in his life, the things that helped him lift himself up from all his falls and hardships.
The song received incredible feedback at a time when the people of Israel desperately needed something uplifting. Within 24 hours, it was added to the Galgalatz playlist, continues to be played on all radio stations, and is receiving an outpouring of love.
